Married Olympic shooters Russell and Lauryn Mark claim they are being discriminated against by officials, who will not allow them to live together during the games, even though gay couples are reportedly allowed to do so.

The Australians pair each spoke out against the decision claiming they felt discriminated against for being in a heterosexual relationship.

"The stupid part of this, which I have argued to them, is that there are tons of gay couples on the Olympic team who will be rooming together so we are being discriminated against because we are heterosexual." Russell said.

Lauryn backed up her husband's claims of unfair treatment.

"There are a lot of same sex couples and its OK to be partners with someone of the same sex but if you are heterosexual you are penalised."

Australian Olympic Committee media boss Mike Tancred has revealed that five female shooters would have been forced to share one bathroom if the Marks had been accommodated.

Beijing gold medallist, and one of the worlds few openly gay athletes, Matthew Mitcham, denied Mark's assertion that many gay Australian athletes would room together in London.

''Since there were only 11 out gays across all nations, I'd hardly consider that a ton,'' Mitcham posted on Twitter.

''Known couples are split anyway.''

Husband and wife Olympic walkers Jared and Claire Tallent are not sharing a room in London and did not request to.
