This year’s line-up was amazing For starters, I had a great, pumping Big Day Out. Royksopp would be by far the highlight, brining out their classics such as Eple, Girl and the Robot (no Robyn appearance) and HAPPY UP HERE! – they’re flamboyant, futuristic costumes, live interpretations of hits and interactions with the crowd hopefully made their first visit to Australia unforgettable and will hopefully see them again on a solo tour soon. Other outstanding acts were Architecture In Helsinki (especially when they covered Betty Davis Eyes for us all – brilliant), along with Boy and Bear (dreamy lead singer), The Jezabels, Battles, Inland Sea and Girl Talk (yes!!). Would have loved to have seen Art Vs Science but decided best to watch Soundgarden and see Kanye’s entrance. As you may already know Kanye had us waiting 45 minutes but he did apologise once on stage. What I don’t understand however is that I thought this year’s line up was amazing compared to last year’s – yet the event didn’t sell out and it was SO incredulously bizarre to see the mosh pit by the blue and orange stage not full once the overseas headlining acts star ted to play. In the past Big Day Outs I have NEVER been fortunate enough to set foot in the mosh pit area by blue and orange stage come night full (you gotta get in early), yet this year not only could I gain easy access but I also had full wing span moving distance when Kanye was per forming in the pit. A privilege that I will probably never experience again. But why? Was there a boycott since the headlining acts are only doing the east coast and no other capital cities? Was the consensus that the line up wasn’t as impressive as previous line ups? Time will tell come end of this year once summer festival line ups are announced. Big Day Out, thank you for the memories!!
