The Brisbane Gender Clinic which provides vital transgender health services has been forced to temporarily close its doors as Dr Gale Bearman who runs the service battles her own personal health issues.

Queensland's Transgender Support Association (ATSAQ) secretary Kristine Johnson told QNews that while the clinic's closure would cause some disruptions, there were still many other GPs and mental health specialists who might be able to assist and take on new patients.

Dr Bearman has had to take extended leave for the remainder of the year. This means that the Gender Clinic based at the Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic will need to close for the duration,” Johnson explained.

“Over the next few weeks, efforts will be made to help current patients find other health care providers and all new referrals will be referred back to the initiating GP.

ATSAQ in conjunction with Sexual Health are endeavouring to find a GP to enable keep the clinic to re-open but are also calling on anybody who may be aware of GPs and mental health specialist who may be willing to take on new patients to contact ATSAQ at trans.atsa@bigpond.com.

Cards or letter can be sent to Doctor Bearman, C/- ATSAQ PO Box 212 NEW FARM Q 4005
