CIVIL UNIONS NOVEMBER VOTE Queensland's Civil Union Bill is poised to go to a vote in the last sitting week of the year after a bipartisan parliamentary review committee reports back to the house later this month. The committee last week met with twenty one groups including the Queensland Law Society, the Queensland Ant-Discrimination Commission, QAHC, PFLAG, and the MCC Church who spoke in favour of the bill, and the Australian Christian Lobby, the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane and Family Voice Australia who spoke against it. Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser who introduced the proposed legislation to Parliament as a private member's bill last month told QNews that the review committee who received thousands of written submissions have a report back date of 21 November. With the Government fast tracking the bill, this will potentially facilitate the debate and a possible vote in the last sitting week of the year (Tues 29 Nov – Thurs 1 Dec). A public forum with Andrew Fraser will be held on Wednesday 23 November at New Farm State School (Cnr Heal & James St) 7:30 - 8:30 where members of the public can meet the Deputy Premier and discuss/ask questions about the bill.
