FAT, FITNESS AND LIES Fat & Fitness Lies Auditions are now on for the new series of The Biggest Loser so I thought it would be good to review some of the more common myths or lies that people often refer to when talking about health and fitness. Don’t believe them! Starve yourself and you will lose weight Most diet programs are too low in calories. As you lower your calorie intake your metabolism slows down. Some very low calorie diets can actually make you put weight on. Your body is quick to adapt – when you eat less it burns less fat, when you eat more it burns more – the paradox of weight loss! To lose weight effectively you need to combine the reduction of calories with an increase in your physical activity. Losing weight can be quick and easy Losing weight quickly or easily is relative to what you have tried before and where you started from. You probably won’t lose weight like the contestants on The Biggest Loser because their entire life revolves around weight loss with a myriad of experts. Losing fat requires effort and discipline. Stop looking for the easy way out and make the change for the long term. Once you decide it is what you want – it stops becoming so hard. My genetics mean I can’t lose weight Your heredity only dictates your physical attributes to a degree. Some metabolic systems or body type may favour fat storage but if you adjust your diet and fitness routine to suit your body type and metabolism anyone can have a great body! You need Supplements/Diet Pills to lose Fat Improve your diet and fitness program BEFORE you consider supplements or diet pills. Protein powders and shakes are also nothing more than ‘powdered food’. They are not better than food - their primary benefit is convenience. If all else fails – try an Extreme Makeover or Steroids Liposuction and steroids are not an answer. They are a quick fix that provide no long term sustainability. They take away the problem but not the cause. It becomes a vicious cycle that serves to sell more products.
