Meryl Streep as Thatcher And the Oscar goes to... It’s hard to watch a film like ‘The Iron Lady’ and not imagine leading lady Meryl Streep walking away with one of those little golden statues (or at the very least a nomination), as she doesn’t just portray former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, but embodies her. The biopic, which re-teams Streep with her ‘Mamma Mia’ director Phyllida Lloyd, focuses on the ambitious Thatcher and her rise to power within the government. Whether you were a fan or foe to Thatcher’s ideals, the film smartly paints her as neither a hero or a villain - simply as a woman who knew what she wanted, but may not of always gone about it the right way. The film itself isn’t perfect as many significant moments in Thatcher’s life are either breezed over or touched on without a decent follow-up - her younger years (where she is played wonder fully by Alexandra Roach) are a prime example of this, but when Streep is as good as she is, not to mention the beautiful support from Jim Broadbent as her late husband, it’s ultimately hard to fault. With so many films out this holiday season aimed at families and younger audiences, it’s good to see the adults have been catered for here with this ambitiously made picture.
"but may not of always gone about it the right way." A very tacky means of articulating himself, it should read ... but may not have always gone about it the right way ... . The inability to use correct words/grammar destroys the validy of any prose for me and many other readers.
