Tel Aviv has beaten off competition from New York and Toronto to be named the #1 in the Best 2011 Gay Cities in the World survey.

A recent survey by gay travel website GayCities.com and American Airlines saw the city win with a massive 43% of all votes cast. The city is famous for its month-long gay celebrations that happen each June. Writing on his blog, the city’s Mayor, Ron Huldai, said “This is a free city in which everyone can feel proud, and be proud of who they are.”
