Australia’s own Pop Princess Kylie Minogue, known more for her array of famous pop tunes than her screen roles, has returned to acting as a tattooed lesbian in the upcoming romance-horror Jack and Diane.

The 44-year-old star plays Tara, a tatted up bad ass with a rather creepy demeanor, who appears to get her pash on with teenager Jack, played by Elvis Presley's real-life granddaughter Riley Keough.

Minogue looks almost unrecognisable in the role, her arms are heavily tattooed, her hair is a mess and her fashion sense is a far cry from her usual camera savvy attire.

In the film's trailer, Minogue walks over to a bruised and battered Jack and asks her: 'Why did you come here tonight?'

Leaning in to kiss her, Jack replies, 'I don't know.'

It's been a while since the singer has dipped into acting, with her most notable film appearances being The Delinquents and Street Fighter in the 90’s and these films were not exactly Oscar worthy.

But 2012 looks to be her year on the silver screen, she will follow up her role as Tara by appearing in French arthouse film, Holy Motors, which received critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival this year and will be released in Australia in September.
