. Queensland Theatre Company’s The GreenHouse, a visceral hothouse of art, ideas, conversation and exploration is about to come to life again with a cutting edge production from Brisbane’s acclaimed performance and dance ensemble, Polytoxic. The Rat Trap, a mongrel mix of dance, aerials, circus and technicolour theatricality will premiere on Thursday May 10 to May 26 at Queensland Theatre Company’s Bille Brown Studio, as part of The GreenHouse 2012 program, followed by a season at CoCA Cairns. The show promises a mix of ground-breaking dance, incredible story-telling, strength through performance and character-based physical theatre. “It’s what Brisbane’s Polytoxic is famous for, it’s why this Brisbane-based troupe of talented performers are now in demand all over the world,” said QTC Artistic Director, Wesley Enoch. The Rat Trap spins a melodramatic tale around five decadently seedy characters who drink, fight, seduce and despair in a bawdy tiki bar. The inhabitants work the room, swing from the lampshades, thrash about in fits of rage, and wield whips, hoops, bottles and fans, in a world where the traditions of the Pacific, the guts of physical performance and the crimes of pop-culture collide.
