PARKLIFE BITCHES Just to dumb it down a bit for all those punters out there that aren’t sure what Parklife is, the best way to describe it would be to say a one day festival that’s opposite to Splendour. Splendour has your main alternative, rock acts of the world play and perform with just a smidgen on dance music where as Parklife is mostly dubstep, club, house music acts with your smidgen of indie, alternative acts. With several great clashes too in the timetable QNews were able to get amongst the following acts – Little Dragon, Naked and Famous, Example, Santigold, Nero (damn that audience was packed *sad face*), The Gossip and a smidgen of Magnetic Man and Lykke Li. Little Dragon were amazing showing off their new album Ritual Union in their act – amazing to see punters know the words to their songs too. Example also had the crowd eating putty from his hand assuring that he will definitely be back in Brisbane since he had such a grand turn out. So many songs Example does that this editor wasn’t aware was him but rather the like of Calvin Harris...oops – but ‘yay’ for being educated. He looked really good on stage too...just saying. Beth Ditto, I am not sure was ‘all there’ in their performance...(typical rockstars) most songs featured Beth facing the band rather than the audience and QNews thinks that she treated the mosh pit by exiting the stage and joining them to perform ‘Heavy Cross.’ I don’t think Beth realised fans standing on the hill cannot see the happenings between mosh pit and stage so sadly the hill people had to settle for hearing Beth deliver breathtaking vocals to Heavy Cross rather than seeing it live too. The day was then concluded by choosing Magnetic Man as the final act which competed with Simian Mobile Disco, Lykke Li and Duck Sauce (again major *sad face*) but Magnetic Man although having a myriad of hits failed to play any of them in the first 20 minutes of their set so QNews resorted to see if Lykkei Li can manage to step up to the plate and represent. Lykke Li as always was beautiful on stage. Overall Parklife was a marvel of a time – prepping the festival crowds for what funsies lay ahead such as Stereosonics, Summafieldayze and recently announced line up Big Day Out. All; keep listening to great music.
