We are all familiar with the old saying 'What goes around, comes around', but the story of one particular long case clock is a little different and recently had everyone at Teneriffe's Commercial Road Antiques smiling with joy and surprise.

Twenty-four years ago, prominent Brisbane hotelier, Mr Neil McLucas, sent a collection of memorabilia to auction, including his much loved long case clock. This was a decision he immediately regretted.

Just last month, the clock resurfaced at Commercial Road Antiques, its provenance unbeknownst to anybody, save the dealer who had cared it for the past nine years. A staff member who new Neil, and knew he was looking to add a long case to his collection, rang him and sent him pictures of the clock in the centre.

As it turns out, Neil was so excited that the pictures had not even finished downloading when he was on the phone, somewhere between laughter and tears to see his favourite “lady” from the past after all these years.

Neil and his old friend were quickly reunited and now once again reside very happily together.

Neil, who is now looking to sell the Sportsman Hotel, was as surprised as he was over the moon to regain his long lost grandfather clock.  “It is hard to believe after all these years,” McLucas said.  “But it is definitely the same clock, only in better condition than when I last saw it. I am so pleased to have it back”.

Proprietor of the Antique Centre Ian Thompson (Pictured alongside Neil) was equally impressed by the story. “We wonder how many other stories of magic have occurred in the 20 year history of the Antique Centre.” Thompson pondered. “We are celebrating twenty years at the same location this month and would love to hear from other people who have a good yarn or story about their antiques.
