Soul Music Cremorne Theatre, QPAC, August 4 – 7 Jonathon Jeffrey is a young man with a strong vision of what he wants to achieve in life, and fired by his passion to perform, he’s in a hurry to show us exactly what that is. He’s been singing, dancing and acting any chance he could get since he was a kid in Darwin. He’s had a stint in Melbourne but now here in Brisbane he feels it has all come together. As part of the cast for the forthcoming production Soul Music Souls Entwined Jonathon finally gets to strut his stuff. “The first half is part R&B, part Hip-Hop, part Pop, some covers and some originals, but it’s all soul, our voice, our hopes, our identity,” said Jonathon. “It’s time to plant our black feet and let our black voices be heard, with a nod of recognition to those who came before us, but also recognises this is where we stand now, and this is what we feel. It may confront some, however we have things to say, and it’s important our stories be heard.” Soul Music is a celebration of finding it, of losing it, of confronting it and drawing strength from identity’s deepest well, the soul. It explores individual notions of stereotype, the spirit of shifts that can be made through banding together to create an exciting future. Souls Entwined is a collaborative dance experience of Australian culture through mesmeric movement, music and storytelling. Bangarra choreographer Gina Rings and Expressions’ Elise May and Richard Causer present a diverse range of dance works showcasing the unique qualities of the ACPA dance majors. It’s a bold, theatrical and musical production that takes us on a poignant journey of self-discovery through song, dance, poetry and comedy. CLICK: www.qpac.com.au CALL: 136 246 (Qtix)
