SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCEMENTS All summer festival events have very much hit us all in one big heap. If you are a festival whore like me get set to get amongst some brilliant live acts forthcoming. However if like most working class people you have to pick one or two festivals this summer, below is a brief guide on what is expecting to come; Big Day Out: Gold Coast Parklands Sun 22 Jan A slight replica of Splendour’s line up i.e. Kanye, Architecture in Helsinki, Foster The People but there are some new acts worthy enough to have all punters line up for tickets such as Soundgarden (following the reformation trend), Kasabian, Battles and Royksopp!!! (omg and about time). Royksopp may be one of the main lqbtqi reelers for this festival since ‘Happy Up Here’ was voted in many queer themed music countdowns in 2009. Laneway Festival: Brisbane Alexandria St Sat 28 Jan The festival for alternative, indie muso’s that features literally a bit of every genre of music. This year’s line up is amazing – The Drums, Laura Marling, Feist (1, 2, 3, 4 – excitement), Austra, The Horrors and Pajama Club. Never heard of Pajama Club? It’s the new Finn project featuring Neil and his wife Sharon Finn. A singer song legend and his Mrs. banding together to bring you a very underground, distinct, alternative sound very much worth investigating. And cmon...its Neil Finn of Crowded House and Split Enz for crying out loud! Soundwave: Brisbane RNA Showgrounds Sat 25 Feb The festival that caters for the rock music fanatics out there. Refreshing to discover since Soundwave Revolutions predicament, Hole will be making their long awaited appearance this February. Appearing with Hole we will also see Limp Bizkit, The Used (gasp), Dashboard Confessional and the freak everybody loves Marilyn Manson. Very Exciting. Something I noticed too that was LOL worthy in the line-up was Cobra Starship... (I make those good girls go bad one hit wonders) – does this band know what they are getting themselves into? ...yeh they will totally fit in – gulp... Futuremusic Festival: Brisbane Doomben Racecourse Sat 03 March The muddy wet festival of Brisbane where all the bogans come to the realisation of what a great idea it is to do a bomb dive in a puddle of mud splashing onto all who stand by trying to watch the awesome acts...no passive aggressiveness here. Again the line-up doesn’t disappoint following the same formula as last year. Your pop act for this year is Jessie J (last year was Ke$ha), Fat Boy Slim makes a triumphant return (fingers cross it wont torrentially rain during his set like his last Queensland visit). Fat Boy will be one of your main dance acts along with Swedish House Mafia and ‘rumoured to be part of our community’ Dj Skrillex will also be performing as a headlining act at too. Plenty of fun times ahead. Start saving now is this music editor’s advice. As per usual keep listening to great music and start preparing yourself for what lies ahead.
