Colton Haynes ‘Extremely Emotional’ At Getting Top LGBTIQ Award

Gay heartthrob Colton Haynes will be honoured with the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award for being a role model to young LGBTIQ people.

The award is given by the group to celebrities who use their high profiles to benefit the LGBTIQ community, and the Teen Wolf and Arrow actor will get the gong at the group’s 17th Annual HRC Gala.

“Colton Haynes has inspired countless LGBTIQ young people across the country and around the world to live their lives as their authentic selves,” HRC President Chad Griffin said.

“By simply being open about who he is, Haynes is helping to break down barriers and tear down closet doors.”

Colton tweeted: “I’m accepting a beautiful award this wknd & I’m extremely emotional about it. I hope I can make it through the speech. No promises haha.”

In May this year, the Teen Wolf and Arrow actor addressed his sexuality for the first time in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good,” he said.

“I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”

Earlier this month, he opened up to Out Magazine about his battles with anxiety, his father’s suicide and his struggles coming to terms with his sexuality as a teenager.
