DRUGS: Know your rights

Queensland drug use advocacy group QuIVVA have launched a new campaign aimed at informing the gay and lesbian community about their rights and responsibilities in relation to drug use and the police.

?The 'Know Your Rights' poster and wallet card campaign ?encourages the queer community to make more informed choices regarding drug use, including what to do when confronted by police, contacts for Queensland Police Service GLBT Liaison Officers, what to do if someone overdoses and safer using tips if injecting

drugs.

QuIVAA President Danielle Coade said, “Our 'Know Your Rights' wallet cards deliver comprehensive information in a small, convenient resource you can keep in your wallet until you need it. They punch above their weight,”

Ms Coade continues, “The campaign does not condemn or condone drug use, but is realistic about drug use in the GLBT community.”

The wallet cards have been distributed throughout Queensland and will be available at most gay bars and clubs as well as community and medical centres.
