20 years of CWC Cabaret

20 Years of CWC Cabaret

By Ross Waghorn

The CWC (Citizens Welfare Committee), best known for their CWC Cabarets, will this year celebrate 20 years of supporting and raising money for QPP (Queensland Positive People).

Commencing in 1989, The CWC will kick off its 2009 campaign by hosting the CWC ANZAC Cabaret at the Holy Trinity Hall in Fortitude Valley on the 18th April. As always, all proceeds will go to QPP.

For many years QPP have invited the Sportsman Hotel to assist in the coordination and running of the night, and CWC has grown to be a twice-yearly event looked forward to by many people in our community.  Venue regulars plus those not actively involved in "the scene" mingle to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Entertainment is provided by DJ's and a stellar lineup of Brisbanes best entertainers.  Although predominantly drag, there has always been a surprise at every CWC event.  Anything goes, from George on his Bazooki, to the very naughty and tittilating Burlesque Dancing of Brisbane's best Miss Bertie Page, and of course the vocal talents of Brisbane's Premier LIVE performers Wanda D'Parke and Candy Surprise.

As always the night will be hosted by the wonderful Mother "Betty" Nature, quick with her wit and subtle jibes.  Brisbane's best entertainers (old and new) will be donating their talents for CWC Anzac Cabaret 2009.  Special guests include Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke, Trixi Onassis III,  Sandy C Breeze, Peachy Sorbet, Miss Synthetique and the current Miss Sportsman Hotel Monica Fusion.  The lineup of fabulous talent is still being added to, so keep an eye out on the night for your favourites.

A number of very generous sponsors have come on board with some fantastic lucky door and raffle prizes.  Our major prize sponsor for the night is Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort, with a two night prize package valued at over $1000.00.  The prize includes transfers, quad bike tour, safari tour, dolphin feeding, and some meals.  What a great raffle prize!!!

The CWC ANZAC Cabaret 2009 will be held on Saturday, April 18 at the Holy Trinity Hall (opposite the valley Pool), Church Street, Fortitude Valley from 6pm. Entry is $8 with all proceeds going to Queensland Positive People.
