Leading Queensland photographer Russell Fleming is set to launch a brand new exhibition of work entitled A Night in Purgatory (It's hard to live. When your dead) at Raw Space Galleries, South Bank as part of the Brisbane Pride Festival.

A Night in Purgatory is a collection of photographic illustrations depicting 20 interrelated characters stuck in purgatory. Each with a distinct story explaining how they came to be stuck in between. Fleming himself has described the collection as “Days of Our Lives - vampire style.”

With a distinct vampire theme, A Night in Purgatory is a bold new direction for the well known photographer whose often homoerotic work is often seen in publications such as QNews, DNA, Blue and Black & White.

Fleming told QNews, “It's a move away from my regular work, (models and muscle men) but still keeping with a style that's noticeably mine”

"I wanted to combine my photography with my ability to make illustrations with Photoshop"

“I totally enjoyed this series, it was easy to photograph and it was interesting to evolve the models into the people that you will see hanging on the wall.”

A Night in Purgatory (It's hard to live. When your dead): 1 - 30 June. Free entry. Raw Space Galleries, 99 Melbourne St South Brisbane. www.russellflemingphotography.com
