Winner of the 2008-09 Queensland Premier’s Drama Award, Richard Jordan’s comedy 25 DOWN is a fresh, fast and funny look into the lives of four Brisbanites taking on sex, relationships, Gen Y quarter-life crises and the generation gap.
James is 25, an aspiring artist and utterly lost. His best friend Emma (Kathryn Marquet) is stuck in a dead-end job, might be pregnant, and thinks she's in love with James (Liam Nunan). The trouble is James is gay. Simon and Gary are also looking to James for love. But James reckons Simon (Julian Curtis) is just a kid and Gary (Steven Tandy) is old enough to be his father.
Directed by Jon Halpin, Queensland Theatre Company’s 25 DOWN is a great new Brisbane comedy from one of Australia’s most promising new playwrights. Richard Jordan’s writing is quick witted and studded with characters you may already know – or even be. 25 DOWN explores truth, lies and stereotypes in Brisbane’s gay and straight communities and the roles people are willing to play in order to be loved.
25 DOWN, 8 June – 4 July, Bille Brown Studio, 78 Montague Road, South Brisbane. Tickets: $30 - $56. Bookings: QTIX 136 246 or www.qldtheatreco.com.au
