Gold Coast Gay Day Launched

By Ged Farmer

Valentine's Day marked the official launch of the Gold Coast Gay Day season at an event held in Mudgeeraba. Amongst those in attendance were Raylee and Arthur Taylor from Care for Life and Labor Member for Burleigh Heads, Christine Smith who spoke of her excitement at once again being part of the event and congratulated the committee on the launch of the 2009 Gold Coast Gay Day.

The night also served as the launch for a new logo and a cheque for $500 was presented to Care for Life from monies raised at the previous Gold Coast Gay Day. The Organising Committee announced Care for Life as the nominated charity for the 2009 Gold Coast Gay Day.

Raylee Taylor from Care for Life accepted the cheque from the committee and was overwhelmed by the support from the community.

“Suicide is an important issue within the LGBT community especially for young people. We need to support our young people especially at that vulnerable time of coming out when confusion and anxiety are causing a lot of pressure” Mrs Taylor said.

She continued, “This money raised will contribute to ongoing programs to address suicide within the community”

Though still in the planning stage, Gold Coast Gay Day is shaping up to be huge event for the Gold Coast with the line up of DJ's, performers and entertainment to be announced in the coming weeks. A big plus for the event is that the venue can cater for any weather condition so rain, hail or shine the event will go ahead.

Gold Coast Gay Day will be held on the 3rd of May at Firth Park Mudgeeraba from 11am
