New route for Brisbane Pride Parade

New route for Brisbane Pride Paradepride parade

By Toby Longhurst

The annual Brisbane Pride Rally and March held on the morning of Pride Fair
Day has now been given a new location and route after last minute scheduling changes were made with Park authorities.

The rally will now meet at the Roma Street Forum (next to Holiday Inn) after the original plans to meet at Queen Victoria Park were dashed by a double booking dilemma.

The parade will now proceed along Roma St to the Victoria Bridge ending at the Pride Fair Day held at Musgrave Park, South Brisbane. Queensland Police will divert and control City and South Brisbane traffic to provide an uninterrupted and free flowing parade.

Brisbane Pride Festival President, Scott Hampson is optimistic about the move to the Roma Street location which has previously played host to the rally in the 1990's.

Mr Hampson told QNews, "While it is unfortunate that we have had to make this late change, we think the new route will give us lots of exposure.  I am looking forward to seeing Brisbane's GLBT community out in force to celebrate our community and show the world that we are still here, still queer and as proud as ever.  As always, the Dykes on Bikes will be there to lead us off.  Whether you attend every year or if it's your first time or even if it's been a while, I encourage everyone to get out and show your Pride".

The Pride Rally is one of the key highlights of the Brisbane Pride Festival and each year attracts thousands of people, to listen to members of the GLBT community address the issues that affect us all before marching together in a display of unity towards the Pride Fair.
