QLD goes troppo for queer film

For lovers of queer films, Queensland's dedicated regional queer film festival series 'Tropical Alternatives' returns in 2009 with a huge programme of high quality films.

Presented by QAHC, in partnership with Melbourne Queer Film Festival; the Tropical Alternatives Film Festival will screen queer themed film festivals on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Hervey Bay, Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton.

Cairns will host three days of films and the other regional centres will be showing back to back screenings of three movies on one day, including films for gay men, lesbians and others through features and short movies.

Dates for each region are below.

Cairns - JUTE Theatre, April 30 to May 2

Townsville - Dance North Australia, May 23

Rockhampton - Central Queensland University Building 6, May 23

Sunshine Coast - Majestic Theatre, Pomona May 16

Gold Coast - Gold Coast Arts Centre, May 2

Hervey Bay - Z-PAC Theatre, May 9

Toowoomba - Burke and Wills Hotel, May 23

Tropical Alternatives Film Festival is also proud to raise funds for QAHC's Healthy Communities Fund (HCF), with $1 from every ticket sold after costs, donated to HCF to help them continue their important funding of local LGBT community initiatives.

This year's film festival will also feature a raffle across the state to win an exotic, luxury holiday for two to PNG, including free airfares and accommodation at Tufi donated by the festival's Principal Partner, Airlines PNG, and QAHC will throw in $300 spending money.
