QUEER PRESS FINALLY WELCOMED TO VALLEY METRO

QUEER PRESS FINALLY WELCOMED TO VALLEY METRO

By Toby Longhurst

At last QNews readers will have a place to find a copy of QNews at the Valley Metro, which leads into Fortitude Valley train station. The Valley has long been a major hub of LGBT activity in Brisbane, which is why it is so surprising that the Valley Metro has for years been so adverse to allowing queer press into its premises – often citing reasons such as safety concerns (someone may slip and fall on one), or commercial agreements with other street press.

The good news…The queer news…The QNews in fact, is that the gay owned and operated Sub Boys have come to the rescue, by installing magazine racks in their shop where QNews will be available to the public.

Sub Boys representative Simon Stapleton told QNews that he was surprised that the queer press had been told they were not welcome, but was more than happy to try to support the community who have played a large part in supporting his business.

“We really can’t believe that the Valley Metro had not been more supportive of the LGBT community considering their importance to the area,” Stapelton said.

“We are proud to be a gay owned and operated business and are really happy to offer QNews to our customers.”

The Sub Boys have been operating from their Valley Metro shop for the past five years and have built up a great reputation as a community orientated business, assisting Open Doors and QAHC, not to mention making the delicious food that keeps the QNews crew well fed and nourished every day!
