Singing out loud

Singing out loud

By Joel Herrington

Out Loud!!!! It conjures up many images for different people.... A very appropriate description for a screaming queen, dykes on bikes or a tranny strutting her stuff down Main Street. But for the residents of Cairns, it is an even more appropriate name for the Cairns Gay and Lesbian Choir.

That's right! Cairns, Far North Queensland has a loud and proud gay and lesbian choir that has come on in leaps and spectacular bounds entertaining all with its fun and relaxed atmosphere it creates. Performing at World Aids day, International Human Rights Day and even a very 'gay' Christmas Special just to name a few.

While  Out Loud may not have all the luxuries of larger choirs such as spectacular lighting and special effects but they sure do know how to entetain a crowd!

Out Loud has just celebrated their first birthday with a performance at the Rondo Theatre on Greenslopes St in Cairns, performing an Eighties medly and their very own rendition of Mamma Mia written by director Cliff especially for the choir.

Also a fan favorite "Its Raining Men" which ends with the cast running off after a hunky man in a towel (well the boys at least) which always brings on applause and raucous laughter.

Out loud is open to all LGBT people living in the cairns region who want to have a whole lot of fun performing in front of a live audience. You don't need a great voice to join in, only a desire to have fun with a great social atmosphere welcoming anyone wanting to just try.

Weekly practices are held in the QAHC resource centre at 290 Draper St, Cairns on Monday nights from 6:00pm. For information on joining or coming performances, please contact the QAHC resource centre on (07) 40415451.
