Ten years of queer film
Packing even more queer, curious and crazy characters into one festival, the 10th Annual Brisbane Queer Film Festival opens at Brisbane Powerhouse 3 - 9 April 2009, introducing Brisbane to a new generation of iconic queer films and documentaries from all over the globe.
Now a prominent event on Brisbane's gay community calendar and one of Brisbane Powerhouse's most popular events, the Brisbane Queer Film Festival will celebrate this double digit milestone with even more diverse drama, documentary, horror and comedy dying to come out of the closet and hit the big screen for your viewing pleasure.
Films from the USA, Iran, Italy, Canada, Spain and Germany introduce audiences to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender characters, both real and fictitious, all of who are dealing with their realities of life, love, tragedy and triumph. Witness the stories of a gay man stuck in a Christian outreach retreat; lesbian lovers pregnant with each others babies; a shy youth falling in love for the first time; the perfect gay couple who find themselves with a not so perfect adopted son; some Halloween humping that goes horribly wrong; the Rat City Rollergirls battling to be the best of the best; and two Israeli transgender lovers who struggle to become what they were meant to be in a world that doesn't understand them. These stories are among more than 30 films selected for the program to suit all tastes.
