The 14th of February roles around but once a year, and regardless if you believe it to be a time of love and romance or another commercial gimmick to boost sales, on this day everyone seems to go a little crazy. Flowers, cards, poetry, dinners and all that in the hope of maybe getting lucky with the one you love.
Unfortunately not all of us are lucky enough to have a special someone to shower with Love and gifts and so this day can be a bit difficult. So in the interests of self preservation, if you happen to be single I thought it might be a good idea to offer up some alternate suggestions on spending some time and if you happen to have it, money on yourself on this world wide day of love.
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, so what better excuse to gather up all your single friends and hit the town. Have a few drinks and dance the night away, after all you will not be the only single group of girls hitting the town on the look out for love, and you never know maybe you might just happen to meet another such single to make the night just that little bit better.
Or if hitting the town is not your style, hold a singles BBQ and get all your friends to bring along at least one single friend and a plate to share, That way you can chill out in the comfort of your own home and meet new friends.
However, if you are more inclined to spent the day by yourself, then why not pamper yourself. Get a massage, enjoys a nice lunch and let any stress of the day pass you by.
Traditionally Valentine’s day is marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. So why not send yourself a simple gift. Everyone loves flowers, send a bunch to yourself with a note that says “ I love you”. Who said Valentines day had to be about someone else? Make it about yourself! No one needs to know you sent them to yourself.
Then when the sun starts to set, continue the pampering into the late hours of the night. My suggestion is to light some candles, enjoy a bubble bath, put on your favourite underwear, crank up your favourite music and dance around the house, hire out some titillating lesbian porn, or a movie of your choice, open a nice bottle of wine and enjoy a bit of time discovering yourself….
But if you get a bit bored with self discovery you could always line up a night in with a exciting new gal from the internet. Nobody ever said this had to be a life long thing, just a good night in.
For those of you who are completely against the romance of Valentine’s day, why not look for a bit more action. Do something you have never done before and always wanted to. Make this day a day of adventure and create some wicked
memories. Maybe take a learn to surf class of get that guitar lesson you have been thinking about. I myself have always wanted to try zoorbing,..I mean what could be more fun then throwing yourself of the top of a hill in a vey large rubber ball? And for an extra kick you can add water, your own private wet t-shirt contest.
And remember if you really don’t want to participate in Valentines day you can always sleep through it because the next day is the 15th and all the crazy love hysteria is over.
