The Winner is Wellington

It's now official: Following the tremendous success of the 1st Asia Pacific Outgames held in Melbourne last year, Wellington, New Zealand, will host the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames on 12-19 March 2011.

Nick Ward, GLISA Asia Pacific's chair of Host Relations, congratulated the organising committee on their great bid document and commitment to creating a vibrant sport, culture and human rights event.

“We are so looking forward to having people from across the Asia Pacific region come to Wellington and have a great time” said Hamish Allardice, from Wellington2011.

“Knowing that the event will be in Wellington in 2011 gives people plenty of time to prepare. Train for a sport, create research papers that could be presented at one of the conferences, create an exhibition, or work on your body for dance moves at the parties. It will be the perfect time for people to plan a visit to Wellington, and for overseas kiwis to make a visit home.”

The 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames Wellington 2011 will consist of a sporting competition, cultural events, a human rights programme and some great parties.

The conference themes will have a strong Asia Pacific focus and reflect the fact that 2011 is the 25th anniversary of homosexual law reform in New Zealand. It is proposed to address LGBT human rights issues and workshop sessions for transgender, AIDS in the Pacific region and youth.

The 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames Wellington 2011 has been provided with a $5,000AUD grant from the legacy fund of the 1st Asia Pacific Outgames in Melbourne.
