Your guide to partying at Pride
By Kylie Mitchell
This year's Brisbane Pride Festival (BPF) is back, bigger and better than ever with many of the tried and true events once again on the calendar, such as Fair Day, Holes and Poles, the official after party at the Wickham and the Pink Pub Prowl.
Also featuring on the 2009 schedual will be some brand new additions. How about a cabaret show that highlights all the twists and glory of the community - Homoneurotic is on at the Judith Wright Centre for two shows only and stars Ruth Gardner, Jacob Deifenbach, New Albumen, Evelyn Hartogh, Christopher Piggot McKeller, Trasey Chambers (aka Sue Drummond) and the Lesbian Supergroup.
Or you could check out the Glender Blender Ball, being held at St Paul Tavern by the QUT Queer Collective. Dj's, androgyny and amateur drag acts! Let the QUT Queer Collective take you on a night of gender bending frivolity - a fundraiser for Queensland's biggest and most politically active queer collective. Pull out your fruits and frocks, suits and socks for a night where it doesn't matter who wears the pants.
Don't feel like parting on at the Official Pride After Party at the Wickham Hotel? If you are up for something a bit more chilled check out the Party After @ the Music Kafe in West End with queer bands, DJ's and performers. Enjoy cheap hearty meals and a full bar.
The Visual arts shows this year are going to be huge with a massive interest from local community artists. Two exhibitions will be held at the Joshua Levi Gallery at the Old Antique shop in Woolongabba.
So no matter what you are looking to do during the month of June the Festival will not disappoint.
More information is available on the website www.pridebrisbane.org.au and the Pride Guide will hit the streets in the next two weeks, so keep an eye out, it's sure to intrigue!
