KAZAKHSTAN – ANTI-GAY LAW SCRAPPED AHEAD OF OLYMPICS


Kazakhstan has abandoned its proposed anti-gay propaganda laws due to mounting international pressure which was harming its chances of hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022. The official government line was that the legislation that was passed by Kazakhstan’s senate in February because of its unclear wording, however, an international campaign to the International Olympic Committee highlighting the homophobic law is believed to have been the real reason.
