It’s official… Brisbane can’t get enough of Cirque du Soleil! Since opening in April, thousands of Brisbaneites have been flocking to the Big Top on Hamilton’s North Shore to see Totem – the latest offering from the world’s most fabulous circus.
Such is the demand for tickets that the season has been extended and will now run until 24 May, so if you haven’t had the chance to see Totem yet, then not to worry, there’s still time!
From the daring athleticism of the acrobats to over 750 dazzling costume pieces, everything about this show just screams bigger and better than any show you’ve seen before.
While the main aim of the production is the shear entertainment of circus at its finest, the story that underpins Totem is the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilisations.
Created in 2010 by by Robert Lepage, Totem has been a massive hit in Europe and North America and has just enjoyed a successful season in Melbourne where it played to the same rave reviews that it has been receiving in the Sunshine State.
Featuring a cast of 46 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers, Totem has played to over three million people across 27 cities worldwide and won the 2013 NYC Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. The stunning 779 costume elements aim to replicate the different aspects of nature and perfectly compliment the uplifting array of athleticism, comedy, heartfelt emotions and surprising visual effects.
Cirque Du Soleil Totem is currently playing until 24 May at the Big Top on Hamilton, Northshore. Tickets are available now via www.cirquedusoleil.com
