Actors Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome have won Best Kiss at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards for their smooch in the Oscar-winning film Moonlight.
They play a pair of gay black teenagers, Chiron and Kevin, who share a kiss on the beach in the film.
“This award is bigger than Jharrel and I,” Sanders, 21, said while accepting the award.
“This represents more than a kiss. This is for those that feel like the others, the misfits. This represents us.”
Jerome, 19, added: “I think it’s safe to say that it is okay for young performers, especially us minority performers, to step out of the box.
“This award is for that. It’s for artists who need to step out of the box and do whatever it takes to tell a story and whatever it takes to make a change, to get people to wake up.”

In February, Moonlight won the Oscar for Best Picture – eventually – after scoring eight nominations.
The coming-of-age drama, directed by Barry Jenkins and hailed by critics as a cinematic masterpiece, follows Chiron, a young man struggling with his identity, his sexuality and his drug-addicted mother.
Three different actors play the character at three different stages of his life.
