If you haven’t made it out to this year’s Ekka yet, then make sure that you don’t miss out! Tomorrow is People’s Day and is the perfect time to see the Ekka shine at its very brightest. With so much to see and do, we have compiled a few highlights that you won’t want to miss out on.
While the Ekka is famous for fairy floss, dagwood dogs, and strawberry ice cream, there is so much more to be enjoyed at the Ekka in more recent years. These days the Ekka is a food lover’s paradise offering up the best produce Queensland has to offer. With a ‘paddock to place’ philosophy, Queensland meats, cheeses, fruit, seafood and wine will be taking centre stage. You will kick yourself if you miss out on one of the numerous free demonstrations held in the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion every day.
Sideshow alley is not for the faint hearted and there are a few new editions this year that are well worth a look. Check out the new haunted house ‘Spook’ and a scary new joy-stick controlled Avengers ride which spins and moves side to side (best to do this one before eating).
There are over 300 show bags on offer this year catering to everyone from the kiddies to the big kiddies so if you can’t find something you like, then you’re just not trying! Our favourite picks are the Darrell Lea Pig Out Showbag for $20.00 and the classic Bertie Beetle bag which after all of these years is still only $2.00!
With so many animals on display, it’s had to know where to start but we recommend heading down to Animal Boulevard where you can get close to hundreds of animals, watch demonstrations of traditional farm and bush skills, and get involved in interactive displays. Animal Boulevard is more than just one pavilion at Ekka – it’s a whole row of pavilions, encompassing the dogs, horse breeds expo, and the ever popular Animal Nursery!
Each night, the main arena will come alive with the never before seen world-class night show, EkkaNITES. The nightly show will light up the Energex Community Arena with a new program comprising four parts — Traditional ‘true blue’ Aussie entertainment, X-treme Action Show-featuring Transformers themes monster trucks and stunt bike riders, live music from Aussie legend James Blundell, and, of course, the spectacular fireworks finale.
