RUBY ROSE IN RUNNING FOR CELEBRITY TITLE AT ‘GAY OSCARS’

Australian actress Ruby Rose will compete with the likes of Caitlyn Jenner and Boy George for the British LGBT Celebrity of the Year title.

Rose (pictured), an outspoken advocate of LGBT rights, shot to fame for her role as Stella Carlin in the hit series Orange Is The New Black.

Transgender actress Rebecca Root, star of the sitcom Boy Meets Girl, is among nominations for the Celebrity Rising Star of the Year category.

Hillary Clinton joins Lady Gaga, Stephen Fry and Bette Midler, among others, on the shortlist for the Global Icon award.

They are just some of the contenders to make the shortlist for the British LGBT Awards, dubbed the Gay Oscars.

Awards founder Sarah Garrett said the awards were vital in highlighting those who have done good by the LGBT community and are also important in promoting LGBT acceptance.

The 2016 shortlist showcases a huge range of LGBT celebrities and famous straight allies who are doing wonderful things for and on behalf of the LGBT community,” she said.

The awards night will be held at London’s Grand Connaught Rooms on 13 May.
