SPORTIES BAKE OFF RAISES THOUSANDS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS

The Sportsman Hotel has this week donated $4870.00 to PFLAG and the Australian Transgender Support Association QLD (ATSAQ) from the proceeds raised at the recently held Annual Sporties Bake Off Charity Auction.

Celebrating its 20th year of raising much needed funds for local LGBT support groups, the Bake Off appeared to be down on numbers this year, but certainly not down on the generosity shown by those in attendance who battled it out bidding on all of the delicious entries.

ATSAQ President Gina Mather told QNews that the money generously donated by the Sportsman Hotel is particularly important to the groups, who split the money evenly, because neither ATSAQ nor PFAG receives any government funding.

“The Sportsman Hotel has been very good to us for a long time and the generosity that they have shown to us has been integral to allowing us to continue providing support to the community,” Mather said.

“Without their support we simply would not be able to continue doing what we do. We can’t express enough gratitude to both the Sportsman Hotel and all of the community members who get behind the bake off each year.”

QNews is also very proud to say that the judges unanimously awarded our very own travel columnist Wally Cowin’s fruit cake as the winner of the ‘best cake’ category.
