The Underground Opera Company will launch their 2016 season in style on 12 February with West End to Broadway – an incredible night of your favourite musical theatre performed in the beautifully refurbished reservoirs underneath Brisbane’s historic windmill.
Boasting some serious star power, the evening will be headlined by Ms Ana Marina, internationally renown for her stellar performances as Phantom of the Opera’s Christine Daae, reprising the role about 900 times across the world.
Ms Marina is complemented by mezzo-soprano Ms Louise Dorsman (Opera Q and Victorian Opera); tenor Mr Bradley McCaw (former Ten Tenor) and baritone Mr Lionel Theunissen (Opera Q and Best Actor Sweeney Todd, 2014), with musical direction and piano accompaniment by Mr Brendan Murtagh.
The venue, The 140 year old Spring Hill Reservoir, was brought to life in 2014, with help from the National Trust, with endorsement from Brisbane City Council, and is now one of the most stunningly beautiful and fascinating performance spaces in the country.
The reservoir had lay idle for 50 years until it was enhanced with public access and egress stairways, ventilation, power and lighting, bars, seating and a stage – all part of a four-year commitment to establishing the reservoir as a fulltime venue.
